So about a week or so (more so) the knuckle on my ring finger on my left hand started hurting. It wasn't turning colors or anything so I knew I hadn't broken it but maybe I hit it on something. Just like every time before, when something hurts or I am not feeling well I just deal with it, keep it to myself and self medicate it until it doesn't go away or get better then I start thinking something might really be wrong- then I go into hypochondriac mode and think I am about to die. Anyway, back to the finger... so today for some reason my finger starts hurting worse and actually is becoming swollen. I go into Natalie's office (I work with her) and I tell her of my ailment and show her my finger and she starts laughing and says "Girl, you have gout" Excuse me??? Gout? That's for OLD PEOPLE I tell her and she quickly tells me that it isn't. I don't know much about Gout so I ran and googled it (love google) The symptoms sound like mine- sorta...
Well then I think it maybe it could be Tendonitis so I google that. OK... symptoms sound the same for this too.
Then I call my mom and tell her of this pain in my finger... she starts chuckling (I guess she was paying me back for the times I laughed at her) and says "Sounds to me like you have arthritis" WHAT??? Gout. Arthritis. I am not old enough for EITHER of these (that is what that voice in my head is telling me)
Sooo... since I am my own Dr. most of the time I have decided I will treat the symptoms of all three:
For the Gout: Lots of water and cherry juice (that's what google says)
For the Arthritis: 2 Ibuprofen 3 times a day along with some Bengay (nothing like smelling like this all day long!!)
For the Tendonitis: A splint to immobilize the finger and ice packs
As for my self diagnosis... I am going with Tendonitis. Mainly because Gout just sounds and looks disgusting and Arthritis is well... I just don't want that either.
