Mike had applied to DeVry University for a position they had available. This whole process started back in Decemeber. Mike had an interview with the Dean of Admissions and the President of the University, both of which were ready to hire him on the spot but of course you have to go through all the mess you have to go through these days and it takes forever. He was told "You will have an offer letter we just have to wait on your background check and drug test to come back clear" No problem- no concerns there. So we waited patiently on them to get him all the stuff he had to fill out and do to be hired. Finally, on January 7th Mike gets an email to go take his drug test. He goes does all that and now we are thinking ok it should be no time now. Not so much. We do not hear anything back. The girl who he has been contacting won't return phone calls, emails- nothing! We heard that the President and the Dean were no longer there so we figured this is why the girl is not responding. Mike continues to email her just to check on the status of his application as well as leaves numerous voice mails- NOT ONE return email or phone call.
Fast forward to week before last (which is almost 2 months mind you) Mike gets a phone call from the girl who would never call him back. She says, "The President and Dean are no longer here but the new President would like you to come in and talk to her. Can you come in next week?" Mike says "Yes, but is there a problem with my application?" She says "No, it is just a formality" So he goes. When he gets there he interviews AGAIN but this time it is with the Interim Dean and NOT the President as he was told. They talk and do all that then they go up stairs to see the President and she is in a staff meeting but says that if she has any questions she will just call him so he doesnt have to come back down there again. The lady that he was interviewing with says, "I dont think she will have any questions so you should expect to get your offer letter no later than Monday." So, Monday comes and guess what? Instead of an offer letter they send an email that says verbatum "
Hi Mike- I am running between meetings throughout today and am running to another as we speak. I am sorry I have been unavailable when you called, but I did want to let you know we have chosen other candidates to move forward with the advisor role at DeVry. Best wishes to you for much future success and thank you again for your interest.
I am just amazed that companies can do this to people. You know in my job if I tell someone something the government is going to make SURE I stick to it! Why should anyone else be different? So here is another lesson... NEVER EVER go to DeVry University!!! I am sure Mike will be transferring schools as soon as he can! They are horrible, mean, insensitive people who do not follow through with what they say. It might be a blessing in disguise... I mean who would really want to work for a company like that???
