Loving my semi completed kitchen!

OH my goodness, I have waited oh I don't know... YEARS to paint my kitchen and do some stuff to it but I just never did because A) I'm cheap and B)one day I like one style and the next another style but I couldn't stand it any longer-I have white cabinets and can I tell you I HATE white cabinets and I just want to rip them off the wall and start over again but I knew that wasnt going to happen so the only thing I could do was paint plus it's a whole lot cheaper than new cabinets. On a whim one weekend day after watching a show (thank you HGTV) and getting more depressed because I didn't have a pretty kitchen like on TV, I decided I wanted to paint (plus it's the cheapest thing you can do to transform a room- did I mention I'm cheap?)- like that day, but I talked myself out of it (which I do quite often)because I couldn't decide if I wanted to go red or blue or green. After consulting many friends, each telling me to do it in red or blue- I chose green (I am just that way, I do the complete opposite).

SO I got the paint up and still really didn't know what style I was going with UNTIL I saw some pictures at Hobby Lobby (Thanks Hobby Lobby) and then I decided I wanted something French Country- Shabby Chic (if that is even a style) but I like both so I figured I could do both. I am not done with it I still need to make window coverings but being the cheapo I am, I have to wait until I can find the material I like on sale. I am going to use burlap and damask- just work with me, it will be cute.

This really isn't a good picture but this is what I want

I know its just paint on a wall but that is major to me if you knew the color that was on it before. I had a friend- ex friend now, who convinced me this looked good, um not so much. Ok, keep your comments nice.

And here is what I am loving the MOST about my kitchen: My Chalkboard Pantry Door!
I have wanted to do this for sometime and have had the stuff to do it but just never did (again, talked myself out of it) This was a tad bit more challenging than slapping some paint on the wall but it wasn't hard at all however, what was supposed to be just a few hour DIY project turned into something a bit longer due to Mike *cough* measuring wrong but I digress.
Anywho, so this is a step by step of how I did my door.

I kid you not I have the most narrow pantry door I have EVER seen (now it looks even smaller with the paint but oh well- I LOVE it!) and the tiniest pantry to go along with it, so trying to figure out how to get this to work the way I envisioned was a bit of a challenge because I don't have much to work with.

Here is what you will need if you want to do this project yourself.
Masonite or some other thin board
Magnetic Primer (if you want it to have a dual purpose)
                                 Black or green chalkboard paint
                                 Molding of your choice
                                 Liquid nail
                                 Heavy duty foam roller (2)
                                 Paint for your trim

My original goal was to not completely destroy the door but as normal, my plans never go according to what I really want. The first thing I did was paint the masonite with the magnetic primer according to directions of course, then I applied the chalkboard paint. Once all of that was done I laid the piece of masonite on top of the door. Like I said, my door is SO narrow that if I had put the wood just on the inside of the door handle then this whole project would have just looked ridiculous so I had to actually bring the masonite out closer to the edge but this now meant that I have to account for the door knob. I just cut a hole in it where the knob goes and it works perfect- sort of.

Once all that was figured out then I glued the masonite on top of the door with liquid nail and clamped it to let it set.

Now comes the whole it works perfect... sorta part. The trim has been a big ol headache, mostly because we had the WRONG measurements! But even better, the trim was supposed to go AROUND the masonite but instead it got stuck TO the masonite so that again kinda messed up my well laid out plan. Never fear there is always a solution, you just have to be creative. I just cut a knotch out of the wood and worked around the knob and voila'... a chalkboard door.

I added the words "Pantry" to the top of the door, not because anyone in this house doesn't know where the pantry is, but I thought it would be cute.
Here is the rest of the kitchen- still unfinished.
Next project is to stain the top of the table.
See the table? Doesn't match now... must re-do!
