I have been watching the debates over the last few weeks, and like most in doing so, I sat back and thought about each one and where I stood on issues. I can see where some things on one side might make sense and some things on the other side make sense so I really took the time to ask myself "What are my beliefs?"
First, I believe there is ONLY one true God. I do not believe God to be a women or nor do I believe his picture appears on a piece of toast. I believe everything he promises me in the Bible. I believe he died so I might live eternally and all I have to do is one simple thing and ask for forgiveness and into my life. He has made a way for me and my family so many times when I, with my human eyes, could see no hope in sight. He has ALWAYS met my needs and protected me and He has comforted me when I needed it.
Second, I do not agree with gay marriage. Stone me now. BUT, having said that, I believe everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. Just because I do not agree with the lifestyle does not make me better than those who do. I proudly can say I have many friends who are gay and lesbian and I love them dearly!! And I hope they can honestly say I have never treated or acted differently towards them than I would anyone else and that I have given them respect, love and support they deserve as a person.
Third, I am torn on the issue of abortion. I do not agree with abortion. Granted, it is my body to do with it what I will; however, I do not think this justifies taking the life of another. I believe life begins at conception. I believe that each child created, was created by God with a purpose. I do not believe abortion should be used as the form of birth control just because you do not want to raise a child or the timing was "wrong". Plainly put, if you do not want a child you have two choices as a responsible adult: A) Don't have sex or B) use precaution. I do not believe a child should be terminated if they will have a disability such as down syndrome or any other. Just because they have a disability does not mean they do not have a purpose- you never know whose life that child will touch. I always believe and advocate for adoption as a logical and viable choice. I am torn if the pregnancy was due to rape or incest or if the mother's life is in danger. I know both of those experiences are traumatic.
Fourth, I do not believe in entitlement and I do not support those unwilling (key word is unwilling, not unable) to work. I do not believe in spreading the wealth. I don't like to hear people blame their circumstances or how they were raised. My parents divorced when I was 6. I got over it. We were not wealthy nor did I get everything I wanted. I had circumstances in my life, some of them people know about, some they do not. Everyone has circumstances and everyone has the same God given ability to overcome them. It just might take a little extra work and perserverance. I work hard for my money and to support my family. We struggled for months with Mike being out of a job but we did what we had to do (within the law). When he lost his job, his employer fought tooth and nail to deny his unemployment and we lost each time. How people can claim and get all they get is beyond me and I don't want my money going to those who know how to cheat the system and get by doing it. If there is a true need for assistance that's what it should be used for, not because someone chooses NOT to work. I think everyone should be random drug tested before receiving their check.
Fifth, I think it is great that people want to come here for better opportunities for their families and I support that. I think everyone should have Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness- Just don't do it illegally. I do not think if you come here illegally and get in trouble you can say your Civil Liberties were violated because, frankly in my opinion, Civil Liberties are for those who are citizens of this country. I do not believe that special programs should be created or extended to those who are here illegally because all we are doing is rewarding breaking the law.
Sixth, I believe in capital punishment. Not much to say on this.
Seventh, my blood bleeds red, white and blue. I am a proud American and I love our military. I take my son out of school every November for Veterans Day. I think it is important that he honors these men and women and understands what they have done and I think it is horrible that schools are not closed for this holiday. My grandfather, uncle, dad, and nephew along with many other family members have served or are serving for this country. I respect each and every one of them for the sacrifices they have made. I believe our governmnet could not pay these men and women enough to repay the debt we owe them- our lives, safety and freedom. I believe our government should increase military money, not take it away.
Eighth, I believe it is important to give back to those less fortunate. I believe it is each of our job to volunteer our time and give of ourselves, unselfishly. Not money, but time. It is important to give back to the community.
Ninth, I do not like people that try to be better than others. You have problems just like anyone else. I want people around me who are not consumed by themselves and all they think about is what's in it for me? If I am your friend- I will be your friend but do not use me or be fake. Do not put me down to better yourself. I could care less about the car you drive, what your house looks like, what name brand you are wearing or anything else. Just be you and be my friend and someone I can talk to and confide in.
So that is who I am. Some may be offended and others may agree, but I am who I am and it takes all kinds of people to make the world go round. I have very liberal friends, middle of the road friends and conservative friends. I think we all need to learn tolerance and understanding - but that does not mean I have to accept all things that go against what I believe and I will voice my opinion as to such. I will respect your views as long as you respect mine.
