My Grandfather was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for 52 years. In that 52 years my grandparents ALWAYS gave back to the Assemblies of God in more than one way and were consistant and faithful with their tithing. They also donated whatever they could to the Aging Ministers Fund which is a fund through the Assemblies of God for Ministers in need.
The other day, in desperation to help them out, I called the Assemblies of God and spoke to someone about this fund to see if my grandparents would qualify. Sadly, I was told once again "they make too much money" (You would be shocked if I told you what these 2 people live off of a month). I can tell you this did not set with me well. I told the lady on the phone that my grandparents gave blood, sweat and tears to help build back churches for 52 years and all that can be done was an "I'm sorry. There are people worse off than your grandparents" I am not telling this story to "badmouth" this organization or denomination but I have to tell it because it is part of the story.
I guess we all know that I am not one to be told "No" so I was determined to keep on making phone calls. I called another gentlman within the district and spoke to him. Told him of the situation and in talking with him I realized his daughter is married to my cousin (It's all in who you know) He gave me the emails of two gentlemen one of whom knows my grandparents very well and has for many years. I gave the email addresses to my mom and she put them aside- I have no idea if she ever emailed this gentlemen or not.
Fast forward to today. I spoke with my mom this morning and she was telling me she has to pay x amount of dollars just to make the copay (which will only cover him through the end of the month) so my grandpaw can stay in the nursing home to continue to get the physical therapy he has to have. She is stressing about this because as we all know, medical expenses are not cheap!
At about 4:10 my phone rang and it was my grandmother. I could tell she was crying so I was just waiting to hear what had happened to my grandpaw or even worse, bad news about my Aunt Doris. Through her sweet tears this is what she said. "Jennifer, Guess what was in my mail when I opened it? A check from the Assemblies of God District" She told me the amount of the check...it was enough to cover the copay that my mom had to pay with just a little bit extra. If you don't think God hears your prayers, he does!!
